A group of scientists placed 5 monkeys in a cage and in the middle, a ladder with bananas on top. Every time a monkey went up the ladder, the scientists soaked the rest of the monkeys with cold water. After a while, every time a monkey went up the ladder, the other ones beat up the one on the ladder to avoid getting a cold shower and after some time, no monkey dare go up the ladder regardless of the temptation.
The scientists then decided to substitute one of the monkeys and the first thing the new monkey did was to go up the ladder. of course immediately the other monkeys beat him up. After several beatings, the new member learned not to climb the ladder without ever knowing why. The second monkey was substituted and the same occurred, but now the first substitute monkey participated in beating the second substitute. A third monkey was changed and the same was repeated. The fourth was substituted and still the beating was repeated and finally the fifth monkey was replaced.
What was left then was a group of five monkeys that even though never received the cold shower, continued to beat up any monkey who attempted to climb the ladder.
Now if it were possible to ask the monkeys why they beat up all those who attempted to climb the ladder, their answer would most likely be “I dont know, that’s just how things are done around here”.
So now lemme ask Does this sound familiar? if we substituted those monkeys with human beings, we would have a an exact replica of our current society – doing so much shit and not even knowing why exactly…….
